Growing Gardens, Healthy Kids
Monica Lam, Erica Peng
From 1997-1999, I spent two years at the University of California Santa Cruz Center for Agro-ecology. I learned how to grow good soil and organic food and I emerged from this deeply transformed from experiencing the interdependency between my health and well-being, and the land and the greater eco-system. I reflect on this time of deep learning and healing, with gratitude.
I went on to direct an innovative organic garden and cooking program in the Berkeley public schools, a model for schools across the country. Here is a 4-part video series of the program.
Innovative ideas and "Best Practices" for how kids have fun eating fruits and vegetables in the school cafeteria.
